Vimanika Comics भारत की एक कॉमिक्स एवं ग्राफिक-नॉवेल प्रकाशन कंपनी है, जो मुख्य रूप से भारतीय पौराणिक कथाओं, ऐतिहासिक एवं काल्पनिक पात्रों पर आधारित कॉमिक्स और ग्राफिक नॉवेल प्रकाशित करती है। कंपनी की पहचान आधुनिक और सिनेमाई शैली में भारतीय mythology को प्रस्तुत करने वाली नई पीढ़ी के भारतीय कॉमिक्स प्रकाशकों में बनी।

Vimanika की शुरुआत 2007–08 के आसपास Karan Vir Arora के नेतृत्व में हुई। कंपनी का आधिकारिक भारतीय launch 17 अप्रैल 2008 को बताया जाता है। शुरुआती वर्षों में Moksha, The Sixth – The Legend of Karna, Dashaavatar और I Am Kalki जैसी पुस्तकों के माध्यम से Vimanika ने भारतीय कॉमिक्स बाजार में अपनी पहचान बनाई।

इसके बाद Shiva – The Legends of the Immortal, Durga – Legends और Ramayana – The Legends of Maryada Purushottam जैसी properties इसके प्रमुख प्रकाशनों में शामिल हुईं। Vimanika ने mythology के अतिरिक्त Kalapani Comics के माध्यम से original fantasy और superhero-oriented fiction में भी प्रवेश किया।

इतिहास

स्थापना

Vimanika की शुरुआत उद्यमी Karan Vir Arora ने की थी। शुरुआती स्रोत कंपनी की स्थापना को 2007 से जोड़ते हैं, जबकि Vimanika की अपनी anniversary information के अनुसार इसका भारत में official launch 17 अप्रैल 2008 को हुआ।

कंपनी की शुरुआती अवधारणा भारतीय mythology और heritage को आधुनिक comics तथा graphic-novel माध्यम में प्रस्तुत करने की थी। इसके लिए mythology, history और contemporary visual storytelling को मिलाने पर जोर दिया गया।

Vimanika के शुरुआती वर्षों में Moksha और The Sixth – The Legend of Karna जैसी properties प्रकाशित हुईं। इन पुस्तकों ने कंपनी को भारतीय comics के उभरते हुए नए बाजार में पहचान दिलाई।

प्रारंभिक सफलता

Vimanika की शुरुआती प्रमुख उपलब्धियों में Moksha को मिला सम्मान शामिल है। 2009 में इसे CNBC-TV18 और AnimationXpress के Golden Cursor Awards में comics category में recognition मिला।

इसके बाद Vimanika ने भारतीय mythology पर आधारित अपनी publishing line का विस्तार किया। The Sixth – The Legend of Karna, Dashaavatar और I Am Kalki जैसी properties ने कंपनी की पहचान को और मजबूत किया।

Shiva – The Legends of the Immortal

Vimanika की सबसे प्रमुख comic properties में Shiva – The Legends of the Immortal शामिल है।

इस series में भगवान शिव से संबंधित mythology को आधुनिक graphic-novel शैली में प्रस्तुत किया गया। इसके विभिन्न volumes में शिव की उत्पत्ति, उनके जीवन के प्रमुख प्रसंग तथा अन्य mythological घटनाओं को कहानी के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया गया।

Shiva – The Legends of the Immortal Vimanika की commercial और critical पहचान बनाने वाली प्रमुख series बनी। 2013 में इसे India Comics Fest में Best Non-Super Hero Comics का सम्मान मिला।

The Sixth – The Legend of Karna

The Sixth – The Legend of Karna महाभारत के प्रमुख पात्र कर्ण पर आधारित Vimanika की महत्वपूर्ण graphic-novel property है।

इस series में कर्ण के जन्म, जीवन, संघर्ष और महाभारत से जुड़े प्रसंगों को आधुनिक narrative और visual presentation के साथ प्रस्तुत किया गया।

Vimanika ने इसे एक विस्तृत graphic-novel series के रूप में विकसित करने की योजना बनाई थी। बाद में The Sixth का साहित्यिक/novel format भी प्रकाशित हुआ।

Moksha

Moksha Vimanika के शुरुआती प्रकाशनों में से एक था और कंपनी की प्रारंभिक पहचान बनाने वाली properties में शामिल रहा।

इसमें mythology, fantasy और action को मिलाकर एक contemporary narrative तैयार किया गया। इसकी सफलता ने Vimanika को शुरुआती दौर में भारतीय independent comics publishers के बीच अलग पहचान दिलाने में मदद की।

Dashaavatar

Dashaavatar – Incarnations of Vishnu भगवान विष्णु के दशावतारों पर आधारित Vimanika की प्रमुख mythology series है।

Series का उद्देश्य विष्णु के विभिन्न अवतारों से जुड़ी कथाओं को graphic-novel format में प्रस्तुत करना था। इसके अंतर्गत विभिन्न avatars पर अलग-अलग publications विकसित किए गए।

I Am Kalki

I Am Kalki भगवान विष्णु के भविष्य के अवतार माने जाने वाले कल्कि पर आधारित Vimanika की mythology-fantasy property है।

Series में कल्कि की अवधारणा को contemporary fantasy और action-oriented storytelling के साथ प्रस्तुत किया गया।

इसके प्रमुख editions में The Silver Book और The Black Book शामिल हैं। Vimanika की इस property को Comic Con India के awards में cover-art के लिए भी recognition मिला।

Durga – Legends

Durga – Legends देवी दुर्गा पर आधारित Vimanika की graphic-novel property है।

इसमें दुर्गा की mythology को आधुनिक action-oriented graphic storytelling के साथ प्रस्तुत किया गया। यह title Vimanika की बाद की mythology publications में शामिल रहा और Comic Con तथा अन्य Indian comics events के दौरान प्रदर्शित किया गया।

Ramayana

Vimanika ने Ramayana – The Legends of Maryada Purushottam के माध्यम से रामायण को भी अपनी graphic-novel publishing line में शामिल किया।

यह publication रामायण की प्रमुख कथा और पात्रों को Vimanika की आधुनिक visual शैली में प्रस्तुत करता है।

Kalapani Comics

Vimanika ने mythology से आगे बढ़कर original fiction प्रकाशित करने के उद्देश्य से Kalapani Comics नामक banner विकसित किया।

Kalapani के अंतर्गत mythology पर निर्भरता कम करते हुए fantasy, science fiction और superhero-oriented stories प्रकाशित की गईं।

इसके उल्लेखनीय titles में:

• Doctor M
• Aryan

शामिल हैं।

Eldritch Chronicles भविष्य की दुनिया में स्थापित fantasy/science-fiction कहानी थी, जबकि Doctor M और Aryan ने Vimanika के publishing universe को modern fictional और superhero-oriented storytelling की ओर बढ़ाया।

Vimanika Studios

कॉमिक्स publishing के अतिरिक्त Vimanika ने Vimanika Studios नामक creative division भी विकसित किया।

Vimanika भारतीय Comic Con movement के शुरुआती दौर में सक्रिय रहने वाले publishers में शामिल रही।

कंपनी ने विभिन्न Comic Con events में अपने comics और नए titles प्रदर्शित एवं launch किए। The Sixth, Shiva और I Am Kalki जैसी properties को Comic Con circuit के माध्यम से विशेष visibility मिली।

Vimanika की Comic Con India में उपस्थिति ने उसे उस दौर में उभर रहे Indian graphic-novel publishing scene के प्रमुख नामों में शामिल किया।

अंतरराष्ट्रीय विस्तार

Vimanika ने अपने शुरुआती वर्षों से ही भारतीय बाजार के बाहर पाठकों तक पहुँच बनाने की कोशिश की।

कंपनी ने अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन और अन्य अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजारों में अपने publications की उपलब्धता बढ़ाने का प्रयास किया। बाद में international exhibitions, crowdfunding campaigns और overseas promotional activities के माध्यम से Indian mythology-based graphic novels के लिए global audience विकसित करने की दिशा में काम किया गया।

Vimanika और उसकी publications को विभिन्न comics और creative-media awards में recognition मिला।

वर्तमान corporate structure

Vimanika brand की शुरुआत 2007–08 के दौर में हुई थी। इसके वर्तमान corporate structure में Vimanika Comics Private Limited शामिल है, जिसे 30 नवंबर 2021 को Chandigarh में incorporate किया गया।

कंपनी एक unlisted private company है। उपलब्ध corporate records में Karanvir Kanti Arora और Rajesh Kumar इसके directors के रूप में दर्ज हैं।

इस प्रकार Vimanika के इतिहास में brand/publishing venture की शुरुआती स्थापना और वर्तमान corporate entity की incorporation को अलग-अलग घटनाओं के रूप में देखा जाना चाहिए।

विरासत और महत्व

Vimanika Comics भारतीय comics industry में उस दौर की महत्वपूर्ण कंपनियों में रही जिसने भारतीय mythology को पारंपरिक comic-book presentation से आगे ले जाकर आधुनिक graphic-novel format में प्रस्तुत करने का प्रयास किया।

इसकी Shiva, The Sixth, I Am Kalki और अन्य properties ने भारतीय mythology, graphic novels और contemporary Indian comics के बीच एक अलग publishing space बनाया।

विशेष रूप से 2008 से 2010 के दशक के मध्य तक Vimanika उन भारतीय publishers में रही जिसने Indian mythology + modern artwork + international publishing ambitions को एक साथ लेकर काम किया।

आज भी Vimanika का catalogue मुख्यतः mythology-based graphic novels, comics और collectibles पर केंद्रित दिखाई देता है।
